In the United States, five children are lost every day to abuse-related deaths. According to national statistics, nearly 6 million children per year are reported as being victims of abuse and neglect. In this author’s home of Jefferson County in Southeast Texas, more than 1200 children are affected yearly. These children need someone to speak up for them to ensure their timely placement in safe and permanent homes. It is CASA of Southeast Texas’ goal to give each child a chance at happiness and the stability they need to thrive.
